Historic Ban on Chrysotile Asbestos as of May 28, 2024

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced in March 2024 that they would ban the use of Chrysotile asbestos, the only type of asbestos that is known to still be used in the United States. The ban went into effect on May 28, 2024. Implementing a ban on the use of asbestos has been a long time coming. Many buildings contain asbestos and lead. Lead in residential paints was banned in 1978, but asbestos has been lagging behind. However, even with the new ban in place there is no exemption for conducting asbestos testing before renovating or demolishing a building. Written Workplace Violence Prevention Plan

By July 1st of 2024, all employers in California were required to have provisions in place to prevent workplace violence. Although Cal/OSHA has not written their own standard yet to address this, the labor code has published requirements for what employers are expected to do to be in compliance.
